This is an excellent Vilayat Khan style sitar made by Monoj Kumar Sardar in Kolkata. Monoj Kumar Sardar & Bros. (a.k.a. "MKS" or "Sardar") sitars produce a bright clean sound. The action and tone are great.

We have these in our inventory in the U.S., and they are each set up in our Urbana, IL shop before shipping. This traditional Vilayat Khan model has 6 main strings and 11 taraf/sympathetic strings. The finish is warm chestnut brown with a traditional pearloid inlay.

While much of India is rapidly advancing, the Indian instrument manufacturing process remains comparatively primitive. From touch ups to tuning, much of what we do at Old Delhi Music is add a layer of quality control to an otherwise non-standardized production process.
